Am headed out in just a few minutes to look at this chair. Here is the photo of it from the on-line advertisement.

*IF* it is oak - any comments or concerns I should think about?

Hello gaild,
From what I am looking at the chair is of oak but, is plain sawn red oak with new seat cover and my Estimate would be around $250 max.

Respectfully,

Here is what I found when I got there:

The rockers aren't original.
The lower back slat is cracked,
The back left post is slightly cracked,
There are screws everywhere "reinforcing" the tenon joints,
Ugly globs of glue where someone tried to re-glue,
The seat has that awful fabric on it (but likely original leather underneath),
Left arm is skewed / not level.

All in all, I think I got what I paid for - I paid $25. We'll see if it's worth it.

Ralph - thanks for your assessment. I'm okay with identifying different wood types (such as know the difference between pine & oak & maple, but within each family I'm not so good.)
