Nice chair! I usually get a big DUH! when I tell people this but it was news to me at one time. If you google an item then click on images at the top of the page all images of that item on the internet will come up. There are over 3000 images of Morris chairs (some labels) so you may find it there.
Rarity in large part determines value. Antiques become more valuable over time bacause so many of them are ruined by well intentioned restorers. I tell you this having ruined my fair share. be sure to find out exactly what you have before altering the finish.

Hello Wabash, Thanks for the information about the google search. It is terrific and what I like is the fact that you can enlarge the pictures and copy and paste as you desire. Thanks again. Respectfully, Ralph Jones.

Forensic label reconstruction: So, I would say 'C.F. Streit Mfg. Co.' of Cincinnati Ohio. Search results also give this name as an entry in the Grand Rapids Furniture Journal (which would be post 1900) with a cross reference to another entry, but there is nothing at the other entry, and no info at the first, so not much help. The only other reference found was in the special collections of the Cleveland Public Library - a catalog entitled "Streit "slumber" chair catalog no. 150 / C.F Streit Mfg. Co.". For what it's worth, I hope this helps.

Well silly me - misfiled in my notes under the name 'Streih' (because the 't' looks like an 'h' - oops) here's another Morris chair with yet another style of tag. Next, yet one more tag, but I found this pic without a chair to go with it, and this one shows the footrest feature similar to the first pics in this thread. So, several different shop marks, but it appears there is virtually no information available for this company. I guess you have to assume that they were yet another "generic" maker that came and went like so many others.

Thanks Stonecat. I had a feeling that if anyone could come through on this it would be you. The footrest seems to be a signature feature with this maker so I think we can be quite comfortable that your identification is correct. And - who knows - there may be a few scraps of information somewhere about the Streit Company. Thanks again

As if any further confirmation were needed, the patent number on my label checks out with a patent by Streit. To view the patent itself follow this link. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/0668268.pdf(free, but a log in is required) By the way, I just stumbled across this freepatentsonline.com site and it looks as if it might be a very useful resource for this group.
