for those of us who like to dream, there is an L&JG dining set offered on ebay, complete with table, 6 chairs, sideboard and china cabinet.

starting bid of $5000 went to $12,500 in first few hours. as of last night it was $14,900 i think, with 8 days remaining. reserve not met.

dream on

Pretty sweet set, and good pictures to show it off. The seller has had several great pieces in the last few months.

Just for fun you could throw a bid at it, i.e. one increment higher, knowing that you'll get out bid before the end.....hopefully Big Grin Roll Eyes

The sideboard is identical style to one I was asked to repatinate the hardware for. The hardware had been Varathaned and I removed the coating and gave it a dark used look then waxed each piece. Parts of the hardware are not made from copper but plated iron.

yes, the pictures are very enticing.

i love the bulbous feel of the strap hinges.

fred. now that i have softened you up with the gratuitous comments on the metalwork...

i am contemplating making a copper face for a clock i am making. i have been doing some research on patina and found a recipie for a brown finish using ferrous nitrate and one with a mixture of ferric nitrate and ferric chloride.

will this give me the nice warm old penny brown i want? not to give away any trade secrets or anything...

yes one could bid the next highest amount and be perfectly safe since the reserve has not been met...
...but what if he decides to accept a bid below reserve? i would have to sell everything i own.

I will gladly share whatever I know. I try my best not to publish formulas due to liability. Ferric nitrate and ferric chloride can be pretty nasty and cause burns. There is plenty out there that will give good patinas. I will be teaching a patina workshop here in Tucson sometime this Fall. I will share what I can.

Would it be possible to use the most recent postings as the start of a new thread on Metal Patina. I suspect there is much to be said that will be lost if the discussion continues here.

Hello Aclose,
Why not just drop down to Jewelry & Metalware and continue with this post in regard to metal patina. I myself am interested in metal patinas but don't have the time to do any.
I did hammer out some A&C hinges that turned out pretty good but, I didn't take any pictures.

They are now in Boston, MA

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones
