Hi all,

We're adding on to our home, and an actual dining room will result. We'd like to go with an Arts & Crafts / Mission style dining table. The flooring in the dining room is Pergo and is medium-darkish. I don't know the Pergo name, but it looks close to the "Golden Chester Oak" on their web site.

We're afraid that if we get a classic piece of Missin furniture that the color will disappear into the floor. I see three options here:
1. Get a new floor, or put a large area rug under the table
2. Don't get a Mission table
3. Get a Mission table with a much darker finish that will contrast with the floor.

Is (3) viable? Or does a dark-finished Mission style table look goofy?

Thanks!

I would go the way of the rug. I have a rug (probably from Pakistan or Turkey or somewhere nearby) that I bought for under our reproduction mission style dining room table. The rug is relatively light in color so it sets off the table from the floor and the (very dark) oak walls. It will probably cost you about the same to get a rug than to pull up the floor. It would be fun, anyway, to find a rug that has the flavor of William Morris or something else that's in the arts and crafts tradition.

I would get the table of my liking.
The table will stand out and not melt in to the floor.
Floors and furnishings have different roles in your minds eye even if the same color.

Good Morning JAllison,
Go ahead with the mission table and chairs as they will be the main focal point upon entering the room because at 29 1/4" above the floor and the 42" backs on the chairs will detract from the floor even if the furniture and floor are the exact same color. Also you will most likely have a sideboard table and or cupboard in the room as well that the focal points will most always be at eye level when entering a room.

Respectfully
