Hello - I am new to this forum and am glad I found it while trying to get info. on a small chair or stool I found recently. This is about the height of a stool but with a modified short chair back on it, possibly to be used to lift it. It is made of oak and has a darkened finish in good condition which I would guess to be original. The bottom is incised Limberts Arts & Crafts Grand Rapids and Holland, and there is also a stamped number 61. I see thru tenons in the front edge of the seat plank - very nice. Definitely what would be called mission styling if you ask me. I know a good deal about older American furnishings but am not really into the Arts & Crafts stuff myself. I don't want to make you guys cry, but I found this OUT ON THE CURB IN A TRASH PILE. It's sturdy - nothing wrong with it at all. It was underneath an old mattress, but I saw the tiger graining peaking out, calling to me as I jogged by. And so if there is anything that any of you can tell me about this chair/stool or its value or how common it is/is not, I would appreciate knowing. I will probably sell it. And if you are interested I will tell you another story about the signed Stickley armchair I found about 10 years ago. On the curb. In a trash pile.

Model #61 in the 1908 Limbert catalog is identified simply as: stool, flat wood seat, 12" X 14", 18" high, and is shown with a telephone stand #261

It looks like one of the smallest pieces Limbert made, next to some footstools.

I imagine its not that common but I don't think value will be huge. Assuming its in reasonable original shape I would say 150-250, but maybe more - you could try it on eBay because its an easy thing to ship and this might actually help get the price up a bit. Nice little find.

I am going to try to take pictures of both the Limberts stool and the Stickley armchair, which I still have after all these years. It is a massive heavy chair that would have had a drop-in leather covered spring seat cushion (from what I have read) and is stamped Stickley Brothers Grand Rapids. The original cushion is gone, and I just have a slab of plywood dropped in with a makeshift cushion on top to make it useable. The chair is NOT oak nor is it the mission style. It is mahogany or walnut, original dark brown worn finish, with a shaped splat-back. I am guessing it to be one of the earlier colonial forms designed by Albert Stickley, but I am no Stickley connoisseur.
