Hello,
I tried to post some photos of this desk I found in my mother's basement. I sent a link to the photos to rikki@canright.com as you suggested in another post. This desk has been in my family for years. My grandfather used it as one of his work desks in his laundromat. I found two numbers on the desk. On the bottom shelf there appears to be a red stencil(?) with the number 1140. On the left front leg, at the top, hidden by the desk drawer is the number 30 carved in. Any idea what these numbers are for?

Thanks,
Patrick

Welcome to the forum.

What a wonderful treasure to have found in the basement. The #1140 is the model number for the library table. In 1999 a the same table brought $1200 at a Treadway auction. A larger two drawer table brought a little over $1300 at a Rago auction in 2002. It is a very desirable piece with it's long arching corbels. I believe the dimensions of the top are 42x30. Not sure what the #30 signifies.

Hey,

Great desk and it has the origional finish too. I own the same model. You should find the Limbert brand on the inside wall of the drawer (mine is on the left side). No idea what the #30 stands for. I'll check to see if I have one as well.

Enjoy!

pmolina2,

I want to find such a thing in the basement! I just saw the two drawer version of this desk on my travels in the antique stores this weekend. It was drop dead gorgeous even with the overcoat. The dealer had it priced at $2200. They had also drawn up a Stickley H-back chair to complete the scene...
