Hi
I believe I have a Limbert porch rocker
set. I inherited them from my grandmother
who just passed. I would have thrown them
out and barely noticed a stamp on the bottom
that says Limbert Grand Rapids. I have googled
enough to know that they are a porch set because
of the screw and bolts that they have.
What could they be worth as a pair ?
Looks like pappa and momma rocker, one has
arms and one does not. they have screws
and bolts, not the better peg style, and are green stain on the bottom, both are
painted on top with many coats of white paint.
As is, are they worth anything> Because of the
many coats of paint, i dont know if it is worth
stripping them.
Can't find any pictures that match these
rockers.
thanks

Maryjane,

Welcome to the forum.

Here is a group of porch furniture items including the rockers.

The catalog says that they are plain white oak, bolted construction, weather-proof finish, and could be ordered in any color.

They could be worth some money if refinished. I found a porch swing at Rago that sold for $2600 in 2006.

Lauren,
Wow,,,i have #2 & #4, is there a
website on "how to" refinish something
like this ??? I am assuming that the
green stain was the original finish.
thanks so much in advance,,,and to
think they almost went out to the
street. I googled that porch swing
and its the same construction.
I think with the right instructions
i could refinish them, have done
my share of refinishing floors, doors
and woodwork.
Thanks/MJ

Hello. Before attempting to re-finish the set, you may want to check to see if the paint is lead based. Most of your larger home improvement stores sell kits that will check for lead based paint.
My guess is that your set may have been painted before 1970, when lead was an ingredient. If your set does in fact contain lead, your best bet is to have it professionally re-finished by someone capable of removing the paint safely.
If on the other hand, your set does not contain lead based paint, there are several internet web-sites, and do it yourself magazines that will show you how to re-finish your pieces. Either method of Re-finishing your furniture will require patience, and a little effort. The end result will make your set more enjoyable, and valuable. Thanks. Tim
