Some years back we bought a "sofa" at an estate auction. The sofa has a cane back and cane on the sides It has the original "carpet bag material" cushions. It is a darker wood. We bought it and it has sit in the garage since that day. We was checking it and found that it pulls out to make like a sofa bed. When we had it out on the inside we found a paper label that had EMPIRE FURNITURE COMPANY {or manufacturer not sure} Texas, Maryland. The cane is in real good shape and it is a darker wood. I have located pictures on the intrnet of the president of the company and a picture of the building, but I can find nothing about the company. I was told that it is from the early 1900's. I have pictures if it would help. Any thing anyone knows would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you Muhammad but it looks like this is not what I am looking for, We know that the couch came out of Texas, Maryland which is a small town in Maryland. It was in a old farm house when the people bought it in the eary 1940's. The paper label is still on the inside of the couch and like I said it says EMPIRE FURNITURE MANUFACTURER TEXAS, MARYLAND. We were going to paint it white and use it on a porch but was told at the time not to do anything until we found out more about it. I have a picture of the factory that was taken in the early 1920's and also a picture of the man that was over it his last name was Berlin. , but that is where everything stops. If you would like to see a picture I would be glad to send it. Thank you again for trying.

Hello again DK,
The name of the company does not ring a bell with me but anything after 1920 is not necessarily an authentic Arts and Crafts piece of furniture. I however build in the A&C style and place my own brand on it along with my autograph and the date. This informs folks that it would be in the A&C style it was not meant to be an authentic piece. I am interested in the information you have, however our picture allotment on our server is full and you may have to go with Photo Bucket or Flickr, (www.flickr.com) in order to post on these forums. Should you care to email the picture to me I will try to post it for you. My email address is Ralj7@AOL.com Respectfully, Ralph Jones www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |
