I am very new to collecting furniture. I do love the arts and crafts style. My wife is pregnant and I would like to get her a gift, so the piece I am very interested in right now is a Stickley Rocking chair. I was wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction towards where to start looking and what I should be looking for and perhaps what price range I should be looking to pay.

All help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Stuart

Stuart,

Welcome to the forum. We have been discussing rockers here.

I also like this ID & Price Guide: Stickley Brothers Furniture: Identification and Value Guide. For nine bucks it's a good investment.

As far as rockers go, they are one of the least desirable pieces out there for some reason. You can get a nice brand name chair for a reasonable price if you are patient.

Of course with impending parenthood, I suppose there is some pressure.. Congrats.

Congratulations on your impending arrival. Don't want to be a complete killjoy, but from a practical standpoint, maybe you could go furniture looking with your wife and see what kind of rocker she gravitates toward? Size matters and so does comfort, especially when you think about how many times a day a baby needs to be fed. Back and arm support can be critical. It's wonderful to have a rocker that fits. Good luck in your search.
