Hi Guys,
Sorry to sound so stupid here, but just want to make sure before I buy.

Was the Red Stamp used only by Gustav? I want to purchase this rocker, can see the stamp, pretty faded, so I can't make out the names.. but was told it is a Gustav Stickely chair.
Seems to be in really good condition, selling for $700.00. Any help would be appreciated.

There are seven "red" Stickley marks...in the pic below the first five are Gustav Stickley, number six is L&JG Stickley, and number seven is Stickley Associated Cabinet Makers (the brief amalgamation of L&JG and Gustav)

...if it looks like one of these, it's probably good...don't know any other company that copied or had anything close to these so if you're satisfied it looks OK, even if faded, then go for it

WOW.. you are good! Yep, it's in there!
Thanks so much.. now I can buy with confidence.
The rocker is a # 317. I need to look it up to find out what year, etc.
I appreciate your help!
Take care

Nette,

If this is the chair I am thinking about, you may want to email the seller and make an offer as it has been for sale a while. Never hurts to ask before paying top dollar! Wink My reference say manufacture could be between 1912 through 1915!

hmm, I wonder if it is? He told me it should retail for $1,200. I tried to look it up on google, but didn't find anything close to that price range for this particular model of chair.
He has the price set at $799.00 right now, but is cutting me a deal on the shipping, so it seemed like a good price.. but I saw others for around $500-$600.00 range at websites showing past auctions.. so he may be blowing the price up, although I was under the impression ANYTHING Gustav was going to cost me way more than any other rocking chair maker.
It's so frustrating!! Thanks for the advice

IMO- I would think it should be in the range of 500 to 625 for a mint one. I know it was posted for a lot less and he did not get his asking price and it did not meet the reserve. It's a tough game. If you really want it and can't live without it, then it's a great deal! If you can hold out and play the game for a while and look for another and risk loosing it, then you may save a good amount of money. Go in at $550 and pay the full shipping. See what he comes back with!

I assume you're talking about the Buy it Now on eBay (saw it earlier). I think this is one of the cheapest Gus rockers you can find, which means its fairly common. A few pop up from old Treadway sales when you Google and the range is 500-900.

Yes, it has been on the market a while. Like the Shop/Crafters cabinet that seems to never disappear, you see items being bought and re-sold almost weekly with only a sellers name change.

wow.. thanks for the info guys. I offered him $700.00 thought he'd accept but he didn't. Ahh well, I guess part of the thrill is finding it and feeling you got a great deal on it. If I have to pay what he's asking, well, that just isn't as satisfying Smile
Take care

Hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just like that french toast morris chair a few posts back! I think one of those side racks has a place for a roll of TP! Razz
