Hello Ralph, I am far from expert on this topic but I have been doing some studying on this era because I am putting out a new collection of Victorian and Arts and Crafts historic stencils. I have learned that it was common practice in 1870-1890 and again in 1920-1930 for floors to be inlaid with different woods or stained in designs to look that way. Another suggestion would be to use the dark brown shades of paint which were part of a color palette of tans and burnt orange and olive green sometimes with white and black accents. You couls also stencil your walls (smile) in colors that complement your furniture. If these colors are not your choice, there are other chyoices using brown. I'm still studying but I can look this up for you. What year was your house built?

Matchie - Matchie; Gets boring plus it melts every thing together. I like a lighter or darker floor then everthing else.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do feel that the mismatch of colors will make it look more "alive" as funny as that sounds. I love the A and C look, but I have noticed that unless there is some good decorating going on, it can look a bit "blah" and all run together in the dark red ocean. lol It's so hard to tell if it will look good until it's done and thats an expensive mistake if I don't like it. I have always felt wood is wood and feels so warm no matter the color so I am thinking I will be happy with it. We'll see!
BUMP for more replies. |
