Thanks, Ralph. And I found this link which gives a very brief history of the Cortland Furniture Company. (Do a "find" in your browser to locate the info. It's a pretty dense page.)

Writing a letter to the reference librarian at the local library might be helpful. Chances are they could check when the company was in business and if it still exists or was bought out, etc.

The Cortland Furniture Co. located at 200 Lexington Ave, New York, NY is mentioned in 1969 as having manufactured a toy carriage containing sharp edges. This testimony was made before the National Commission on Product Safety Extension and Child Protection Act. I do not know if this is the same firm.
