It is well documented that Albert Stickley of Stickley Brothers Grand Rapids was established in business in the UK at the turn of the century. Does anyone know if any examples of their English work has surfaced or what other items they may have made in England?
Kind regards, Matt |

Hello Matt,
According to my records Albert and some other furniture makers set up a warehouse and sold out of that warehouse starting in 1894. In 1896 Albert begins "factory" and marketing operation in London, makes his first known trip to England, subsequent known to England and Europe in 1897,1900, 1903, 1905, 1908, 1910, and 1913. Albert retired in 1926 and died in 1928 in Gorgeic County, Michigan. Respectfully, Ralph Jones www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |

Matt
I know of a Stickley Bros. example (bookcase) meant for the UK. Please contact me if you would like to see an actual picture of it. A line drawing of this example can be found at the top of page 4 of the green-colored Stickley Bros. reprint catalogue by Turn of The Century Editions. Best, Richard

Interesting - just to clarify, did they manufacture in England, or export to England? Exporting sounds drastic but then again there is certainly tons of English stuff in North America.
