Both of these Arts & Crafts armchairs have partial paper labels. Around the circumference are the words. "Philadelphia PA
R -------- Bros." In the center of the label it says "Morris Chairs, Dining Chairs, Mission Sets." What was the name of this company? If you have any clues -- please post. "Stickley Bros." does not work because there is not a "R" of a first name associated with the persons involved in this Grand Rapids company. I am aware of the Philadephia based furniture maker "Stanton H. Hackett." This does not seem to fit. "Rittencraft" is another manufacturer which fits with the "R," and the paper shreds suggest that an "I" and "T" could be the next two letters. But the "Bros." does not fit with "Rittencraft." The other names of Arts & Crafts makers with "brother" in it are Barber Brothers or Plail Bros. Perhaps it was R. & __ Plail Bros or R. & __ Barber Bros. Eager to here what you may know, intuit or infer about this label, similar designed chairs or other makers in the Philadelphia area. There is also an imprint on bottom of the frame on one of the chairs which looks like the figure "3".

I hope you're still checking in for a reply. There were countless companies that had "..& Bros." as part of their trade name. I've gone through my data base of marks but can't find a match that seems to work. Try posting a picture of the mark if you can. In the meantime, the chair is a needle in a haystack I think, in terms of being able to identify a maker.

..follow up after some more digging..

Here's a possible. This is an ad from the Wannamaker's Diary of 1911, which was a combination daily diary, home advice book, and advertising book, put out by Wannamaker's Department Store.

Awsum Stonecat!! You are the ulitmate sleuth on this one. The spacing matches perfectly for RITTER BROS. I've been wondering about this since I bought them 30 years ago in Pittsburg at a yard sale. That was 1976!
TX for putting end to one of my life's great mysteries!!! Not really!
