I have a lot of cherry wood furniture and they all have a reddish tinge. I just bought a bookcase which claimed that it was cherry but when comparing it to my other furniure it looks more brown. Are there different versions of cherry? Is there a name that differentiates them both?

Hello Friend,
There are as many different shades of cherry as the is in a rainbow. If you really want to be boggled try to match any one of 130 colors of Rosewood. Oh, by the way your picture as is mine in the Greene and Greene PIP pictures are a wee bit too large for this forum and should be resized. Respectfully, Ralph Jones http://hometown.aol.com/ralj7/index.htm |

New member checking in... I know Ralph from another site, so hello to Ralph!
Both of your pictures look like pieces that have been stained... and not everything represented to be cherry really IS cherry... rather something colored to look like what people have come to expect 'cherry' to look like. Natural cherry will also have many shades, and darkens over time to a rich, reddish brown... but looks nothing at all like either of those pictures when it's 'new'. |
