We are having kitchen cabinets built from QS oak and would like a finish simular in color to Stickley's Onondaga 32. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use. Our cabinet maker is clueless.

You could try custom mixing but you're probably better off trying to find the closest off-the-shelf colour, just in case you run out or have to replace something etc. No maintenance - Minwax stock colour stain and varnish. Old authentic approach but some maintenance down the road - aniline dye, shellac, wax.

We had the guy that did our white oak floor match a wood sample from Stickley. He used oil based stain and mixed two of them. Please note that we choose white oak to go with the our Stickley furntiure.

Hey Stonecat,

The white oak staircase and floors were a perfect match for our Stickely entertainment unit. (We couldn't find an antique in white oak that would hold our TV.) It was also a good match for some of our antiques.

Stickley used to give out wood stain samples to their customers. Now you have to pay for it. And, I believe that you have to order the sample in some stores and wait for it to come.

Try Sherwin willams stain, Wood Classics Interior Wood Stain. And have them keep the formula on file.
