Here is a folding bookcase to set on the top of a table on e-Bay. Does anyone know who made this? It is not signed. I have one at home sitting on top of a mission library table. The really neat thing is that it folds down completely flat. The grain is strong and the cut out design on the end is striking.
I wanted this as a compantion to what I already own. I paid $75 for mine locally and I hesitate to go over a $100 because I don't know who made it. Bev. |

Here is a second view of it. The wood is very dark and it makes the cut-out design really stand out.

Here is the final picture. I decided not to bid on it again and just see what the final price ends up to be. It would have been nice to have a twin set. I just don't know how much it is worth and don't want to over pay for it.
Bev. P.S. It sold for $99. I kept looking at it up until the last three seconds. I hope I can find another book rack like it someday. |

Hi Bev,
I believe those were made by Lakeside Craft Shops, and have one in the same form, but the center design may be different. Those are very handy. Mark |

that same inlay pattern is found on various pieces signed by lakeside shop of the crafters.
$100 sounds about right for the ones i have seen. |

So, it looks like I should have bought it. My book rack that I have at home is gorgeous and in great shape. Now, I know who made it, thanks to you collectors. Next time, I will know. Thanks for the feedback.
The one on the web had a very white center or top of the box that was carved into the end piece. Mine is very yellowed. What center design do you have on yours Mark? Bev. By the way, I just came across this book rack but the seller does not identify who made it. http://www.strictlymission.com/Access.html |

There are three pages of bookracks in the LCS 1912 catalog reprint including a bunch with these inlays

I've seen what seems like endless designs on the Lakeside pieces. Interestingly the values have been steadily increasing over the years, especially the magazine stands and nicer footstools.
The below link is a Lakeside magazine stand from the last Craftsman sale. Given the amount of great furniture in their sale, that magazine stand was getting a decent amount of attention on the second day. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/s/lot-3146488.html?q=lak...raftsmanauctions&t=x |
