Hi, I am trying to figure out if this is Stickley Bros? I have the matching rocking chair that I am almost finished restoring and this looks just like the picture from the Quaint Furniture catalogue except for three things:
1) It has corbels 2) The front posts extend up through the arms. 3) The corner blocks were put on using screws, mine were attached with just nails. Otherwise it is the same including the kind of odd widths of the back slats (med, big, small, small - top to bottom). Does anyone have a different Stickley Bros catalogue with this variant of the original chair? I am at the office otherwise I would include a scanned image of that page of the catalogue... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&it...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 |

It's not in the 1908, but here's the closest from 1912 and 1914. The 1914 has the corbels and presumably real through-tenons (you can see the tops in the picture) but it doesn't have the front brace like the eBay picture or the 1912 - maybe the brace has been added after the fact as a repair of sorts or maybe its another year or maybe the same year but not in the catalog or maybe another maker's copy or maybe I've run out of maybes
Note that the eBay chair is listed as 40" tall and the catalog chairs are 41" and 42" - beware of a possible chop or it depends on where the measurement is from, the top rail or the top of the post |
