Dear forum members,
Can you please help me identify the manufacturer of this library table? I'm attaching to this message a picture of the whole table. The next two messages will contain, respectively, pics of the circular cut-outs on the ends, and the paper label on the bottom. thanks so very much for your assistance. Sincerely, Neil |

Your table is from the Michigan Chair Co. - I have them summarized in my notes as follows:
Michigan Chair Co. • Grand Rapids, MI, 1890-1926 (combined w/Luce in 1926) • general line, some Viennese, Japanese, and Prairie School design influence, also worked in mahogany; desks, tables, chairs, settles, magazine stands, dressers, corner cabinets I would call them a second tier company meaning they made above average quality furniture with notable design features like the cutouts. They were fairly prolific as well with about 1500 different pieces according to one of the few references on them (Marek, Don. 1987. Arts and Crafts Furniture Design, The Grand Rapids Contribution, 1895-1915. out of print and hard to find book). The label you have is also the rarest of the four different ones I know about (and thanks for the pic |
