As a woodworker, I've copied Stickley pieces for years. I recently purchased a Stickley library table after having it appraised by a close friend. I have no doubt of its authenticity, but I cannot identify the particular model. The table is oak, with the proper sticker in the single, wide drawer and the number "5" embossed on the bottom llip of the drawer face. Can anyone help me identify the model number and date? Thanks Thom
Sorry, my digital is down-going tonight to purchase another. The table is 48"longx30"deepx30"tall. It has a single drawer which is full width and depth. The trestle runners are through tenoned, and the trestle itself is double through tenoned and keyed on each end. The legs have a rounded groove about 2 1/2" from the bottom. The top is quarter sawn oak. Again, the sticker is L and JG Stickley, and there is a "5" embossed on the bottom edge of the drawer. Thom
..none of the double trestle/tenon tables seem to have drawers, looking in the 1910-1915 catalog and 1909 retail plates...by two trestles do you mean 2 pieces or one piece divided at respective ends into two tenons?
Bingo! That's the table. Mine also has what appears to be an original copper-face lock, and there are grooves on the lower part of the feet. They appear to be original to the table. Any idea of the date on this piece? Many thanks, Thom
Thom, The top picture is from 1909 retail plates, meaning not a real catalog, but just a group of advertising pics. The table is also seen in the catalog issued in 1910 that was used for five years as essentially the same product line. So the table is circa 1909-1915. There is essentially the same model in the set of 1906-1909 advertising pics (that have also been reprinted) but with a model number of 377. You refer to a stamped 5 so I assume this would make yours the model 531 from 1909-1915.
The lock you mention may have been added later. I don't know what the grooves would be except something added or cut later for some reason. Does it look like an alteration - an added piece, or is it just a cut groove???
