since we now have contact with such illustrious authors and researchers, i will ask a question i have posted previously, i think.

i have a very nice period desk with side shelves and cutout designs that was made by King Furniture and Mfg of Warren Ohio. any history on them?

thanks

i too hope these visitors will continue to provide input and discussion

Don,

Can you post a picture of the shopmark, so I can add it to the data base I'm working on?

Here's a King china cabinet from Rago's and I'm sure I saw an interesting china and sideboard combo noted as King, I think somewhere in a Treadway sale.

thanks for the move and the reply. first i have heard of any other king pieces. the cabinet is very nice.

the desk is now in pieces in my shop. the top had some water damage and had warped, so im straightening it. also the cutouts had some pieces missing i have to fabricate. i will post it as soon as i am done.

i will shoot the tag this weekend and post.

thanks again

I'll try to find the Treadway pic. In case you need to do any refinishing, the more pics of other pieces the better.

..wow, I found it in just a couple trys..Treadway labels it as Kings Furniture, so I assume its the same company, just a typo with the 's'

March 2004 - made $2200

Arts & Crafts cabinet, by Kings Furniture Co., a series of cabinets and drawers with mirrored back, original hammered brass hardware, original finish, 60”w x 22”d x 58”h, very good condition

Thanks for the pic Don; I'll add it to my data base or checklist or whatever you want to call it. I have expanded the scope a bit to also be a listing of known manufacturers (with location/dates/type of furniture as notes), whether I have a shopmark or not. I'm up to about 180 companies, and about 50 shopmarks - I'm thinking the list might make a good website someday Smile

Stonecat-
Sounds like a great web site. What if you also added some of the historical information (or links to historical information on the more well known makers) and then also had pictures of 'signature' or at least well known pieces. Maybe something that helped define the company. Folks could even email you pics of their pieces. I would be exremely interested in such a web site as I am somewhat new to A&C and have actually revisited your pic of shop marks from a posting a while back.

In the mean time, do you think you could do a posting or a series of postings listing the companies you have put together and a collage of the shopmarks? I know it would be a bit of work but it might be very helpful for us that are new to the style...

Steve: I'll start a new thread with this..just to keep things organized..one topic one thread kind of thing
