This is a pretty unique looking rocker. From other pics i have seen of Harden rockers, it has similar arms to them, but is it a Harden or something else?? Any ideas Stonecat or anyone?

Hello Ken,
Until I enlarged it I wasn't sure but, I do believe that it is a Charles F. Limbert rocking chair. The reason I say that is the curvature of the arms and the vertical cutouts in the side slats. It looks like a sturdy chair. Respectfully, Ralph Jones www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |

Hello Ken,
I have exhausted my search for the particular chair in your picture but I have asked some of the other fellows to see if they can help you find out about it. However I still think it is a Limbert chair. Respectfully, Ralph Jones www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |

Thanks for your help Ralph. Well the chair has arrived here and it is a beauty. However I have one HUGE problem...this rocker was built for a GIANT lol....I don't knoe if you can tell from the pictures (note how high the arms are. I am only 5 6" and i would say this chair is ideal for someone 6' 6" or more, lol....
It is so big that the only way I can get it to even rock back is by having my feet on a high footstool. It is comfortable and solid as a rock though and really want to make it work, but because i am so short it feels like i am going to fall forward out of the chair whenever i try to rock, as I think a big man would help the weight go back in the chair. Can anyone offer any advice on what i could add to the chair (without damaging it) to make it naturally lean back. Where/how could I perhaps add some weight, what type of weights, or any other ideas? |

It's not a Limbert based on my references; not even close.

I just sold this chair to an antique dealer who told me it was made by Darby. Broke even on it. Does that name mean anything to anyone?
here is the pics: http://portland.craigslist.org/fur/166598763.html |

Nothing on Darby here - English company maybe? One problem with fairly 'common name' companies is that internet searches turn up many false hits, so who knows there might be some on-line info out there somewhere for Darby.
Anyways, now you have some cash in hand again to go shopping/hunting for something else |
