Hi, I need to replace the bookcases on either side of my fireplace. They are solid chestnut but have been painted and generally abused over the years. I tried to strip the paint but not much luck there. Also the bookcase doors were removed and lost many years ago. Does anyone know a master cabinet maker around the NY/Nyack area who could create some high quality built-in bookcases using quarter-sawn oak?

Just an idea.. But have you thought about instead of removing the old bookcases.. maybe cutting a new face frame and doors?
if you can attach a picture of the old cabinets, we may be able to get you some ideas.. My advise would be to look at all of the options before making a decision.. Thanks.. Rob www.houseofyesteryear.net |

Hello Friends,
I concur with Rob on this matter, however I am a master cabinet maker in London,Ohio. I am sure that I could make them for you but you would have to hire a local carpenter to set them. I am attaching a bookcase that is now in Boston,MA. Respectfully, Ralph Jones www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |
