Love to read all of the information shared in this forum, and delighted to be able to learn. I have two beautiful oak chairs, both are wide-armed, deep seated and quite substantial. Wish to sell them and I'd like to be a bit more informed about the provenance if at all possible.
Any information from this knowledgable group is much appreciated! |

Hello Claudia,
They look like they might have been built by Charles Limbert but, I am not sure, you may find a lable or markings on the under side and or on the side rails of the chairs. With out them it would be hard to tell just who did make them. By the way, welcome to the Arts and Crafts Society and we hope that you will continue coming to join in with our conversations of the many facts on the A&C movement. Respectfully, Ralph Jones your furniture host. www.ralphjoneswoodworking.com |

Ralph,
Thanks much for your good opinion and further information for investigation. Yes, it is difficult to track down provenance on the pieces without a signature or label, but I shall look closer. This forum is great! A real treasure for all who love the arts & crafts period. Thank you! Claudia |

Your set is made by Brooks out of Saginaw Michigan just ten miles from my house!

I agree with Todd. These were manufactured by Brooks. They have a reissue catalog for reference.

I agree, the chairs look like Brooks. Brooks did make a lot of Limbert knockoffs. In some cases, some of their tables and morris chairs were very close to the original Limbert designs, but the proportions were always slightly off or a bit smaller. Brooks pieces usually are catagorized as "generic" arts & crafts. Which would be considerably less in value than a Limbert. To get an accurate appraisal send your pictures to David Rago or John Toomey.
