I am looking for any information on turn of the century Harden furniture. Any books, websites.... Also how does it compare in quality to the other majors such as Stickley, Limbert, Young, Lifetime....is Harden considered first, second, or third tier?

i am probably not as discriminating as most die hard collectors, but i expand my first tier past gustav to include all the stickleys (except maybe charles), roycroft, and limbert as top tier. very close is shop of the crafters, jm young, michigan chair, lifetime, lakeside shop of the crafters, harden, phoenix.

all others i would group as third tier, including the better generic stuff.

lets see what reaction this gets from others...

Would Stickley Brothers Quaint still be first tier...or did they have a bit of drop-off in quality and be 2nd tier?

Good Evening Friends,
I personally think that all furniture made in the A&C style is in the eye of the beholder as to which he/she considers 1st, 2nd, and or 3rd tier. Each person has their own likes and or dislikes. I like Stickley, Roycroft(Hubbard), Limbert equally as well as the other because each one has their own similar but different designs. All are eye appealing and are made with the golden mean in mind. 1 x 1.6 ratio.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones
