i finally got around to snapping a picture of the clock we got that had belonged to my grandfather.

it has been painted at some time, so eventually i want to refinish.

dont know if the work are good, i need to get a key to wind.

Many of these clocks (like the ones I have) are not made of the best wood so be careful about refinishing, maybe the 'paint' is original.

I haven't gotten around to working on mine at all - one seems to have been partially stripped, and the other seems to be a solid tinted shellac that hides the grain so I might just leave it, with a little touch up. I wonder about the numerals, however. Presumably they were supposed to be polished to stand out from the background, but polished metal is not generally an A&C thing to see. Confused

I have seen about five of these clocks this year. Some are an original black stain and while others are a dark brown where you can see the wood grain though the finish.

A lot of them were in awful shape and pretty beat up looking. Your clock looks great compared to what I have seen. The numbers are in very good shape. A lot of the clock numbers have tarnished so badly that they blend into the background of the clock.

I know a clock/watch repair place in Abluquerque, New Mexico that specializes in fixing old clock and watch works with replacement or orignal parts if they can find them. (They buy out old jewelry/watch repair shops to get parts to fix this old stuff.) They work miracles and would be able to get you a key to wind it. They would also oil, and check all the works to make sure that nothing would break when you put the key in it to wind it.

The shop is called Sterling Times, 7400 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. The owners are Henry and Ernie. You can call them at 505-889-8352 to talk to them about your clock.

When I was last there, I gave them xeroxes of Mission Clocks just like yours for their files. They work on all of our old pocket watches, mantel clocks, and winding wrist watches. I highly recommend them to help you to get that clock of yours running. These owners plan to retire in two years, so don't wait too long.

Good luck.

Bev.
