"Fraud Alert" posted on daltons.com website (high end A&C dealer)
Fraud Alert Interesting in that we have discussed a bunch of bogus looking pieces and shop marks in the last several weeks. Interesting also in that Dalton's is in Syracuse and that some of the bogus marks were coming from upstate New York ebay sellers, so it shows you how fast word spreads. Good on Dalton's to put the alert on their site. "I thought it important for you to know that in the last week I have seen several pieces with fake marks. Please check the source you are buying from and be sure you are buying from a reputable source that knows the material. Get a receipt that says what the piece is, with details and confirm that there is a return policy longer than a few days. I have seen a counterfeit "The Work of L&JG Stickley" mark on a bookcase and a die stamped mark on a couple of pieces of copper claiming to be Gustav Stickley. When values of objects go up there will always be those who try to get something for nothing. If you would like to discuss this please give me a call." |
