I've had an assignment set to me at college to present a project and understanding of the arts and crafts movemet. In order to complete the assignment I have to answer 3 questiions.

1) What qualities would we be trying to portray in using an arts and crafts style?

2) What sort of products or company would we use an arts and crafs style to portray today?

3) Find an example of a modern design that uses retro arts and crafts style.

If any of you experts could elp me or give me some advice Id appreciate it alot. Thanks

1. Truth in materials and construction/process.

2. Furniture. Modern style furniture that shows joinery and does not hide the grain or beauty of the wood.

3. Need to think on that a bit....

The movement was founded as responce to the Industrial Revolution. The return to handwork and the use of materials in an honest fashion without the bric-brac of the Victorian Age. They understood that this type of craftsmanship would humanize the items made and would improve the working conditions of the craftsmen and women.

True and honest use of materials and methods of construction that were both utilitarian and beautiful, were guiding principles for the creation of many of the items of the Movement.

3. Any item created with these principals in mind are certain to show the same desirable qualities admired in the pieces made during the Movement. Modern design does not exclude handwork or truth in material or craftsmanship and process.
