Hi,

I am going to be building a new home and I would really love to build a Craftsman style. I have been doing a lot of searching online for plans and there seem to be a lot of them available. It will probably be about 3500 to 4000 sq. ft. and I would like it to have an open floor plan without any formal living space. I don't want any rooms that I have to furnish, but get no use.

I really love the look of the columns and shingles and the wood doors and I'd like to re-create that in my home. I am considering being my own general contractor and I am currently gathering some info in where to get plans, and other materials that would be specific to this type of home.

This is the plan that I really like. I think it might be a little too big and I want a basement, but I like the floor plan. I also LOVE the back porch with the fireplace. I'm not sure I love the color scheme, as I was thinking about grey with stone and white trim.

Hi, I designed and built a Greene and Greene inspired bungalow (4,999 sf) after falling in love with the style.

Early in the design process I realized that I could start with virtually any floor plan of my choice, focusing on the Craftsman Style open plan philosophy, and tweak it to fit my needs. Then I used Craftsman architectural details (roof pitch, windows, doors, columns, materials and finishes and colors) to bring it home.

The home was featured in the book "Along Bungalow Lines" by Paul Duchscherer - the last home in the book. I'll attach a link to some photos.

Have fun with your project!

Good Morning To Both of You,
I would like to welcome both of you to these Arts and Crafts Forums and we hope you come back often. I haven't had a chance to look at the second floor plans but the one with the fireplace on the porch is a very nice home with plenty of space for company and a very good place to entertain guests.

Now I'll go to look at the other floor plans.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

Hello Craftsman Touch,
That home is just beautiful and well planned.
I don't think either of the two brothers would complain about the belt holding the lamp but I would change it, or would I as it does bring forth an origanal design.

I do know one thing, Pete is one lucky guy to have a wife as pretty as you. I can afford to flirt as I am old enough to be your grand father. Well, almost.

Respectfully,

Ralph

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am glad I found these forums and I'm sure I'll be frequenting them as I do research for my house. I am still unsure what brand and style of windows and other things such as tile have me stumped as well.

Thank you for the compliment "Grandpa" - (nope - don't think you're near old enough, but I'll play along) Pete Thomsen of Pacific Valley Woodsmith in Solvang CA is a wonderful cabinetmaker, but not my husband...
As I've just hired him for another interior design job I'm working on, I won't be able to resist passing along your comment...)

Here is the lantern once I finished making the stained glass inserts and Pete got it installed properly.

Good Morning Craftsman's Touch,
All I could say when I look at the light from the beam was "oh, wow." Not only did you use good inginuity the location of the light on the Greene and Greene style beam with the cloud lift ceiling mounted post and the through tenon really set it off to a T.

I await the finished home and a picture tour of your soon to be beautiful home. I know that Antique Homes will be happy to see it as well.

Respectfully,

Rlph Jones

What a wonderful thing to be able to design and build your dream home. It is particularly great to be able to have it in the Greene and Greene style. The detail work looks superb and I truly enjoyed seeing images of the completed project.

Best,

Fred

I did a lot of research when doing my home, and selected Pella Architectural Series for Windows and most of the Doors in my Greene and Greene style. I love the screens that can be added that slide down when you need them and vanish when you want an unobstructed view. These were well worth the investment and after 7 years I'm very happy with them.

Here's a shot of my kitchen showing the windows...

I'll keep adding images as I can Ralph - I'm working on a huge project, a "Craftsman Crash Course" DVD. I've recently contacted Lauren and she is going to provide me with some of the images I need. I'm happy to reciprocate if Antique Homes wants to see any of my photographs, design drawings, or "before and afters". Better quit posting and get back to the project!

If you need help with tile - that's my passion! I'm going to teach a "Designing with Tile In Your Home" Course at the Arts and Crafts Conference in Grovepark this spring. I'm happy to walk you through the steps when you are ready. Tile is a fun and rewarding way to express yourself in your Craftsman Style Home.

Good Morning Mummer and All,
I just found a book on Barnes and Noble entitled Shop Drawings for Craftsman Interiors; Moldings and built ins for every room in the home.
They are asking $22.45 for members or $22.95 for non members. Even at that it would be a good book to add to your library.

Respectfully,

Ralph

Good Morning Craftsman touch,
When ever I want to start my day out right all I have to do is to come to this forum and gaze at your beautiful face and hair and then I know my day is starting out right.

Please, don't take offence to this old man for I am a lover of beautiful things and you are one of them.

Respectfully,

Ralph
