i like the deep recessed porch and tapered columns. also the way the column is in front of and partially in front of the windows. nice composition.

Ok I'm going to disagree here, at the risk of Don giving me an architecture lecture... Cool

The column that blocks the window..umm, blocks the window! To me it creates a dead zone around that part of the window. I know that sometimes the intent is to create so-called negative space that works in harmony with structural or positive space (correct terms??), but I doubt anyone was thinking about this with a simple bungalow design. To me it just looks like a big column too close to and blocking the view both out of and in to the window. Given the window is 'pushed' forward the view up and down the street should be pretty good, but not in one direction given the size of the column.

i don't disagree, the view is compromised. but i dont think it is that detrimental. the two windows provide adequate view, ventilation, etc.

i kind of chalk it up to compressed design on an small lot.

the comment that no one was thinking of this is probably true. many of the bungalows were not architect designs, but builders looking at other designs, plan books, etc and adapting to site. they may also have done things just because they liked the way it looked.

wow. somebody actually does look at these posts...i'll have to be more careful...

and completely off topic...i like your animation of the cat. what is the significance of "stonecat" if that is not too personal?

I finally got around to trying if an animated gif file would work (and I got another photo account that lets me upload them), and well I guess it does. It works both as an insert and in a signature. It might get annoying after a bit, however.

Stonecat came to me on a whim on another forum. A stonecat is a type of river fish, similar to a catfish, and they look quite cool in my mind, and they're something I look for when out river fishing because they're an indicator I'm in the right sort of area to find bass. I suppose other interpretations could apply as well, sort of a ying yang maybe between stone and cat.

...and the columns could maybe just be a thing like "...hey boss we need some columns on this one", "OK, lets use up those ones..."
