Here is a picture of my 1910 A & C home, built by a man named "Bricky" Williams. I am looking for input on: A) What color(s) to paint it, and B) What to do with the foundation
It just seems to lack "curb appeal". Does anyone have any comments or ideas? Thanks!
Go to Bungalow of the Day Feb.8 in this forum, use your brick as the orange and a combination of the yellow and green on paintable surfaces. Those colors look wonderful on that house and you may come up with a real gem if you are willing to take a risk. I don't get the foundation question, do you mean paint?
Ok, I saw the other photo now. Follow wabash's advice and do it up "painted lady" style. Lots of bold and differing colors. That gray cinder block foundation is indeed butt ugly. Paint it or veneer it with stacked stone. You could have a gem of a bungalow with just a tiny bit of cosmetic TLC.
Not to start a mutual admiration society but eric is right about the foundation. To me there are two paint choices, the obvious one is to try to match the brick but I've seen it tried with less than satisfactory results. My next choice would be a grey much like the color of your shingles,it should give a better visual anchor. If money is not a problem I think you will ultimately be happiest with the stone veneer. To make the whole color selection process easier there are computer programs that will let you retouch photos and preview your paint job without lifting a brush. I remember goofing around with one on a friends computer (Adobe Photo Deluxe, not an endorsement, just the one I used) By the way, I'm not a house painter but I play one on the internet
Thanks for all your input! I appreciate it very much. Right now I am downloading for ten dollars Benjamin Moore's program to load my house and paint it on the computer.
I thought about stone for the foundation, but hate to add another element that really wasn't on there to start. If my bushes would only grow faster. . .
My house is in Sheridan. It is on the low side of a hill- the backside is enormous! But I am going to look at those houses you guys mentioned and I'll let you know how it goes.
