Dear All. I love this board.

By way of introduction:

I am a dreamer, my father lives in a craftsman bungalow- (1912) and I have fallen in love with it. I would love to kick him and his wife out of the house, but...that is not very nice.

My husband and I currently we live overseas (in Singapore) so the craftsman home is still in the planning/dream stages. What I think we dream of is a craftman home on some property (not likely) or building our own craftsman style home that is more earth friendly and economic, using passive and active solar where possible.

Does anyone have any resources where I can see some draft plans for such a house or should I just start designing my dream home and then contact an architect when the time is right?

TIA

Kristy

Hi Kristy,

I think you might be interested in checking out a book called "The New Natural House Book: Creating a Healthy, Harmonious, and Ecologically Sound Home," by David Pearson. It was copyrighted 1989, 1998, published by Simon & Schuster. It seems that many of the ideas offered in the book could be easily incorporated into a modern A&C new-build to wonderful effect. Good Luck!

Hi Kristy,

I also recommend "The New Ecological Home: A Complete Guide to Green Building Options" by Daniel D. Chiras, copyright 2004, Chelsea Green Publishing Company. This book contains a lot of information on alternative building techniques including passive solar and natural insulation etc. that might be useful.

Hello Kristy,
Once you have found a house that you like and would like to build in the Craftsman style I will draw the blueprints for you as I am a professional draftsman and can do them a lot more economical than any architect would charge you for them. My Email is Ralj7@AOL.com should you be interested.

Respectfully,
