Good Morning Friends,
There have been quite a few folks who have been restoring their homes to the original conditions in the Arts and Crafts style and have been having trouble finding trim to match the existing trim. They came to me and asked if I could duplicate the trim, of which I have now done quite a few. It seems that they are telling other folks about me as I am getting quite a bit of work in this manner.
I am attaching some cedar corbels that I made, and when I have time I will take some pictures of the other trim I have done.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

Ralph,

It is great to see someone offering replacement woodwork for homes. The Corbett House here in Tucson was restored several years ago and much of the woodwork had to be recreated to match what was existing. Fortunately period photos were available. The Corbett's did not furnish their home with A/C items but the home has been now decorated with period furnishing and decor.

Hello Fred,
If you liked those corbels, then you really should like this work that I did on another house, here in London.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

Ralph,

Great job on the detailing. Who chose the color scheme? I think the owners must be very happy with the end results. Thanks for the images.

Good Evening Fred,
The owners are the ones who picked the color scheme, and it was a job that I really enjoyed doing as it was on Main Street in London and I got a lot of compliments as well as future jobs as a result of it.

To make the curved pieces on the underside of the corbels I took 1 1/2" dowel and cut them in two, giving me a flat side to fasten on the corbels, then all I had to do was to cut them to length. People would stop and ask me how I did it and I told them, "quite well,I'd say."

I have done so many jobs here in London that people know the work just by looking at it.

Did you like the saw tooth dental molding over the window?

Respectfully,

Ralph,

I very much like your total treatment of the doorway and the corbels. Very clever to have used the dowels to give you the shape you needed. With the use of today's glues and mechanical fastening by way of nails, they should last a great many years.

I am not surprised that you have received commissions from others. Your work speaks for itself.

Wow. That's great stuff Ralph. I am also relieved that with all the work my house needs, at least it doesn't have fancy trim! That might otherwise be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Good Morning Gale Force,
After noticing that you are located in the Sierra Nevada, California foothills, there is no doubt that the house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Did you enjoy the information on Grueby? I am sure that the tile around your fireplace is his design or a close replica.

Respectfully,

Hi Ralph. I'll bite. It's an Irving Gill home with a quartz fireplace mined from a source just a mile or two away. I did enjoy your other post though. Smile

here's our house

pardon the fireplace insert.

Hello Gale Force,
Sorry about that as I had you mixed up with Candice.
That sure is a beautiful fireplace, and the scalloped panels over it are exactly the same as my front porch rail panels that I made about 15 years ago. Isn't that something for two different houses having the same pattern and 3000 miles apart.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones
