Hello, This mansion is one of the few mansions left on north Sheridan Road, Chicago. This is right around the corner from where I currently live in Edgewater Beach, Chicago, IL.

The Edwin M. Colvin House, George Washington Maher , Prairie School architect(1864-1926) Completed in 1909.

Here you can see the influences of other Prairie School architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright,Louis Sullivan....

Interesting building. Is it a tourable builing? I wonder if it has been remodeled. The columns infront of the double window seem out of place. Perhaps that was originally a porch. Thanks for sharing this bit of history. Chicago is filled with wonderful Arts & Crafts Movement history.

Hello FZ,

No, it's all original by it's architect George Washington Maher. It's considered a national landmark. Which mean it cant ever be alterated in any way at any time.

It's a private residence at this time and yes you can go on walk tours of my neighborhood and appreciate this house and many other Prairie School, Arts and Crafts and Craftsman style homes along with many other styles of the early 20th century.

For anyone interested in reading more about George Washington Maher, we have recently added an article about his houses from House Beautiful, 1908.
