this house has special importance for me. unlike every BOTD post to date, this is not in lousiville or surrounding areas.
i came across this picture at my parents house. it was taken probably in the '30s. this was my grandparents house in Belle Vernon, PA. my father was born in the house in 1919, so it predates that time. he thinks it was probably built in 1915 thereabouts. i have strong memories of visiting every summer for two weeks. the entry foyer with stairs and builtin bookcases, french doors to living room. my father says the porch was enclosed later, all work being done by my grandfather. the house was sold when my grandfather died in the '70s. strangely enough, someone i work with here in KY knows someone who lives one block from this house. they are going to take a current photo to compare condition. i will post that as a followup when i get it. i appologize for the sentimental stuff, but hey, i started this thread so i guess i can go there. i hope you enjoy it too ![]() |

Don,
Beautiful house....and very cool picture! It catches the "warmth" of our Pa. winters! It will be nice to see what it looks like now!! Sentiment is a good thing. |

I love that house. Beautiful windows and lots of them. I really like it when they have the grills at top and full glass at bottom with dark paint. I also have a soft spot for vintage photos - I cannot get enough of them...it is particularly interesting to compare vintage photos with current day. Thanks for sharing!

Don,
Thank you for sharing this bit of your past. It is interesting how it influences our taste in the future. The image is wonderful and I look forward to see the new image. Fred Fred (Moderator) http://fredz49.blogspot.com/ |

Many of the houses i have posted are in the immediate neighborhood where i lived as a kid. the area is full of great craftsman houses.
the attached image is the house i lived in. not a great example by any stretch, but has some general characteristics. |
