Continuing with the houses on Stiltz Ave.

today features a nice stone bungalow, very rustic in appearance in an otherwise stately neighborhood.

Don,

What a great stone facing on the home. I was born in a small town bordering the Mexican state of Sonora. I recall a wonderful home made from volcanic stone of the area. I will see if I can get an image of it to post. It was my first exposure to A/C bungalow home. I went inside once as a child. The owners were friends of the family.

i used to live in idaho and remember several "black rock" houses as well, made from local lava flows.

that is true to the movement. utilize local materials.

also interesting is the rectangular cut on the stone for the foundation and the rough random stone on the upper parts.

i guess the lower stone appeared to them more substantial, bearing on flat surfaces to support the house.

maybe the foundation stone is just a newer product installed over the original foundation wall (which would have been poured concrete maybe), angel stone facing or whatever the trade/brand name is
