this bungalow is one block over from the last two. this is a large house, but not overpowering due to the number of smaller and human scaled components. personally, i would like to see some more color contrast, but otherwise near perfect.

There haven't been too many comments on landscaping for all these postings. I like the big tree here, probably as old as the house, so it has bungalow roots as well.... Big Grin (yah yah don't give up my day job).

I like the tree as well, mature, appropriate trees add aesthetic and monetary value to house. When I first bought my place I couldn't bear to remove the 7 large poplars even though they were close to the end of their lives. They were eventually removed and a nice selection of specimen trees are becoming established. As the quote goes "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." (Anonymous)
As a result I have become a bit of a tree planting nazi when people buy a house. I've decided the best housewarming present is a tree.
Stonecat, there was an article in the Globe about a Co. that went about Toronto buying and removing mature trees and reselling them to new homeowners, sometimes at a cost of 5-7 thousand dollars.

BTW, Don good selection, lots going on but not too busy.

Tree moving - Yes, I know there are specialized tree digging units mounted on trucks that can dig up and replant trees up to several inches in diameter. I've seen it done.

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread Don but there is some serious equipment for tree moving.

not a problem, good topic i have considered doing, having a "mature" tree planted.

there was an 18th century British landscape architect named Capability Brown that moved whole groves of mature trees because they blocked a view, or in order to create a view of a mature forest.

i'm talking 30-48" trees, oaks, hickories, etc.

in my current job as a construction project manager, i often have specs with new plantings of 4-6" caliper trees. not cheap, but gets a good start on developing a nice landscape.
