Chicago is a haven for Arts and Crafts and Prairie School style architecture and is the home of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece Prairie style home called the Robie house.
In Hyde Park Chicago. Built in 1906 for a multi millionaire bicycle manufacturer's wife.

There are also other noted architects such as Luis Sullivan, George W. Mayer, Greene & Greene, Walter Burley Griffin, Marion Mohoney Griffin Frank Lloyd Wright's leading draftsman, who was a woman. And many others.

I'm lucky that I can walk out my door everyday in Edgewater Beach, Chicago or just the view from my penthouse flat.

Go on the shores of lake Michigan, where I live and admire a smorgasbord of different architectural styles.

Homes apartment buildings and mansions. Even the building where I live is a 1929 Art Deco style building.

I will soon post pics of the homes.

Good Morning Rico,
I have been there in that area and I agree with you on the different architecture and it would be nice if you would post some picture so other can drink in the beauty of the different style that were in the variations of the A&C look.I even had the pleasure of visiting the home of Frank Lloyd Wright on oak street.

Respectfully,

Ralph Jones

I recently took a trip to Chicago. My first time there. I can enthusiastically recommend the Chicago Architecture Foundation tours. The guides that I had were natives that exuded pride and a thorough knowlege of their subjects. I took a few pics. Lauren

I am looking for a home to buy in Oak Park, IL (We can't afford the FLW houses and they are on the market). But there are a couple of houses (4-square) that say that they have Gunderson wood stairs or designed by Gunderson. There is even a street in Oak Park that is named Gunderson. I can't find anything out about this business or person. It is used often in home descriptions.

Does anyone know who or what is Gunderson? I did a web search and came up with nothing.

Bev.

Here is a painting by Kerne Erikson of Edgewater Beach, Chicago. At the time you could at anytime rub shoulders with Babe Ruth, Marylin Monroe, Frank Sinatra and even with the first black heavy weight boxing champion of the world Jack Johnson.
