continuing down Stiltz Ave, another stone bungalow. again, the cut stone foundation and random stone upper. makes me think there was one builder on these houses.

Don,

I suspect you are right. The massive stones used to delineate the foundation seem taken from the same quarry and were probably cut for the home developer. This is my favorite of the ones you have shown us. I wonder if the clerestory windows are original to the design or perhaps a later modification...

i would think everything is original. the clapboard siding on the dormer appears period. many of the houses in this area have replacement window that are obvious. if they arent original, they were modified long ago.

Fred, seeing the word clerestory in your post triggered something. I've just been up to the attic to confim, that is the term written on the rafters of what I used to call the dormer. It seems one vertical window makes it a dormer and a series of windows a clerestory, would that be correct?
Don, I like the sense of permenance of the stone houses you have posted. You rarely see that sort of thing out here.

Clerestory usually refers to a set of windows placed above the first floor to allow light in to the first level. It often rises above the first floor roof. Sort of a second set of windows on a wall. Very popular in Modernist buildings.
