i think i have seen this form in a catalog somewhere...but not sure.
i found ten of these in a two block stretch of one street. obviously from the same family, but not identical. the pitch of the roof varies. the materials range from brick to stucco to siding. the porch brickwork is also different on each one. ![]() |

Something I have been wondering about with many of these...the basements on many look very shallow, like half below grade, and half above. The elevations thus end up looking high and the porch stairs and the porch treatment etc. are all high (some look like bunkers), relatively speaking. Is there a reason? Groundwater, bedrock, minimum frost depth? I assume it's frost depth related, but could be wrong - like meet the minimum spec without having to dig too much.

These might be crawl spaces. The old houses from the 1800's and earlier here, have crawl spaces as high as 4 to 5 feet. This eleminates the musty and moldy smell of today's houses with crawl spaces of two feet or less. But I don't see any vents on those three houses. There should be windows of some sort if they had basements.
Also, can I offer to post pictures of a house? We are looking to buy an arts & crafts anything. Last night, we almost bought a sweet one for $139,900. It has an orginal sleeping porch on the second floor overlooking the back yard. Great front porch with wonderful details inside and then found out why it was so cheap. The next block down, there are abandoned houses, neglected apartments, and runndown rentals. We decided against the house. But, now I have all of these great photos. Would anyone be intereted in seeing some of these gems? It looks like some Green and Green influence in the porch, door and window trim. Bev. |

Thanks, Don. If it weren't for the neighbors a block away, we were ready to buy that house on
Thursday. We will post them this weekend. It will be a selection of interior and exterior details. Bev. |
