Five Greene Gardens: Lecture/Private Garden Tour/reception

"In Five Greene Gardens, landscape architect Isabelle Greene and co-author Pam Waterman tell the story of how Isabelle came to garden design from a background in art and botany. Granddaughter of Henry Mather Greene, Isabelle was raised in Pasadena. She knows the rhythm of Southern California's Mediterranean climate -- the long, dry summers and cool, wet winters; its chaparral-covered hillsides; its wonderfully varied flora; and all its arid beauty.

Pam Waterman will lead the lecture, and Isabelle Greene will guide participants on a tour of one of her latest gardens at the Blacker House. Reception to follow."

Does anyone know if the Blacker House will be open for tours as is the Gamble House? Unlike the Gamble House, certain items were removed from the original before it was restored. I believe LACMA has the one of the tables.

Touring the Gamble house was almost spiritual and my wife an I hope to tour it again soon now that the remodeling on it's exterior is complete.

I can't find any mention of the house being open for tours.

The LA Times refers to the removal of the items from the home as the "plunder of the Blacker House". It's is such a shame. Post-auction, an uproar in the Craftsman clan(log in required)

"The auction of the trove stung some members of the Craftsman community who still lament the fate of Greene & Greene fixtures taken from the stately Blacker House when it was sold in 1985. After the plunder of the Blacker House, Pasadena passed an ordinance protecting significant Arts and Crafts objects from being taken out of the house they were designed for. In Craftsman lore, the total environment is central."
