Hello All,
We're off to East Aurora to stay at the Roycroft Inn in June. We know a little bit about what to do as follows: Tour the Elbert Hubbard Roycroft Museum at 362 Oakwood Avenue in the donated home of former Roycroft Leather Shop head, George ScheideMantel. Here's a link: http://www.roycrofter.com/museum.htm. Fisher-Price Museum perhaps? Off to Syracuse to see the Stickley Museum in the original L.&J.G. Building (I believe) and then tour the new L.&J.G. plant. Here's a link to the museum: http://www.stickleymuseum.com/index.cfm Any advice on other sights or attractions (good restaurants)along this vein the East Aurora-Syracuse area by those who have been there would be most appreciated by us! I notice in Also, I noticed in Lauren's thread on Buffalo that there are some interesting places to see. Can you provide any details? We'll be passing through from Toronto. Best Regards, Copperoak |

I went through the same process as you (thanks) and came up with a few less actual antique stores -- I suppose it's more or less a process of dropping in to see what's there.
As an aside, here in Alberta, Canada, we seem to be losing our antique stores left, right, and centre. It's not just recent events in the economy but something that appears to be somewhat more long-term. Our on A&C dealer is closing shop after 17 years. The owner says that there's less interest in antiques in general, and A&C stuff specifically. I'm not certain what to think about those comments other than that my interest is growing! Can anyone else comment on this? Copperoak |

The antique store on the Roycroft campus is a good start as is the "Copper Shop" gallery and store.
If you have any interest in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, the Martin House complex in Buffalo is a wonderful example as is Graycliff, the Martin's summer home on the lake. Make certain you have at least one meal in the Roycroft Inn. Their food is wonderful. |

Hi Don,
A fantastic idea -- this certainly must be the pre-eminent A&C shop any where. Thanks. Best Regards, Copperoak |

If it's open, you definitely need to see Boice Lydell's Roycroft Arts Museum. Some of the most amazing Roycroft/Jennings you will ever see.

Hello RLW and Bungalowbear,
I've returned from a fantastic visit of a few days exploring the Roycroft campus and other attractions, including three nights in the Elizabeth Bartlett room. The Inn and campus are a magical spot. Unfortunately, Boice Lydell's house was closed due to a tree falling on it! Thank you for the article. I have lot's to report, including images, of not only the campus, but a side trip to Fayetteville for the Stickley Museum tour (including access to a never open to the public section that is original, right up to circa 1904 graffitti) and Syracuse where we visited Dalton's, Gustav's Columbus Avenue home, and Gus' original Eastwood factory of which parts are still intact in the matrix of a later remodel of a now pretty much abandoned building. Unfortunately, I'll be away for the next two weeks and will not be able to provide details until early July. Thanks for your interest. Best Regards, Copperoak |
