I know Portland has many nice historic neighborhoods, but what shops are there? I'm looking for antiques only, not repro stuff. I'll be staying in the downtown area with no car, so it would have to be close by.

Circa Vintage Design,

As far as I know there are no A&C antique stores in Portland. There is one place in Sellwood that I can usually find a few pieces. At the last pass they had a Limbert desk, with a Gus H-back chair pulled up to it. It's not far but to get there you'd need to take a bus out of downtown.

There are the usual type of antique malls scattered across the city. All are hit and miss on glass, metal and pottery. None have great furniture.

Portland is a great city. We had a blast...very hot though! I did manage to get down to Sellwood. There's the one shop that does have A & C stuff...they had a Stickley side chair, and a Limbert, for only $165 a piece! I was tempted to lug one around with me at that price, but my kids were quite impatient. In general though, most of the shops were disappointing. I had a great time though...plenty of neat neighborhoods with bungalows as far as the eye can see!

I'm so glad that you had a good time in Portland.
Yes, indeed, it has been unusually hot the last few weeks. Of course Portlanders don't mind really - since it rains from October to July.

Sellwood itself is a cool old neighborhood. I think that Daily Bungalow needs to do a set of photos in the area. Smile

Sounds like I need to get myself down there. I try to get to the different areas every 3-4 months. Any more often and it's "been here, seen that."
