The dilemma of course is that others also copied Gus and the brothers, so the same pieces Charles copied may have been copied by others as well

...while thumbing through some old Craftsman catalogs (May 99), I found this; I don't know if it helps with the mystery Gus-like Morris chair but it goes to show how period makers were copying the Gus designs; in this one arms are different, corbels are different and tenons appear single pegged instead of double pegged..ahhh the mystery of it all...

AND the front side slat looks like a piece of plywood! Maybe this has something to do with that beautiful stand from the other post that was made by Plybrothers or whatever.
This one does have nice cushions but the through tenons are not proportional. The madness of it all. And we do this voluntarily! |
