I am going...I think. Actually i'm going to be at the other show at the other hotel, that's going on the same time as grove park. There's an auction, as well as a 3 day show the same weekend at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel. Here's the link... http://www.artscraftsasheville.com/index.htm It's all arts and crafts as well.
Just copy and paste the info above into your search bar on your browser. I will go thru the grove park show as well, but I don't think i'll be able to go to any of the lectures or speaches. I can't wait!
Don, contact Tom or Rose at this number...I think they may be able to get you a room at the renaissance hotel. 256-777-0844 They had reserved a bunch just for dealers and people attending the show. It's worth a shot anyway.
Alright it's officially started, the buzz is in the air, it's the 20th anniversary, we need to know what's going on, please post updates, pictures, stories, whatever,
I can imagine the entire show is in a state of uproar over the sudden discovery of a long lost Harvey Ellis library table and Gustav Stickley tankard on eBay this week.
I just checked out the website. What do you guys do, go there in a U-Haul and spend your all your savings? It looks wonderful.
Instead of investing in a Roth, what about taking that money and investing in A & C antiques? Wow, you could spend a fortune down there and walk away very HAPPY! You could literally and figuratively sit on your investment and watch it grow.

My understanding is that it is mostly high end items, so it would require a rather big checkbook. The irony is that the theme this year is supposed to be 'Mission affordable'. Maybe they meant along the lines of Mission Impossible perhaps?
I'm sure it would be an opportunity to see some stuff that the average collector would normally not come across, but I doubt there will be any 'deals' to be found.
just got back from the show. too tired to do much tonight.
the show was sensory overload. there were things in every price range. we bought several thing under $100, including a small Heintz Art Metal tray.
the mission affordable show wasnt at grove park. it was at the Renaissance hotel across town, where the overflow traffic stays. it was much smaller and had both low price and higher priced pieces as well.
the highest price i saw was $175,000. tons of stuff in the five figure range.
i will try to post some more coherent thoughts tomorrow and post some pics.
the surprise was not seeing that much roycroft metal.
I hope that you took lots of pictures for those of us that couldn't make it.
Now, do you think that the lack of Roycroft pieces at that show means that they are getting rarer or that there is less interest in Roycroft? Recently, I have seen a lot more information available on other metal shops.
